Boy Meets World Star Danielle Fishel Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Boy Meets World's Danielle Fishel Reveals Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Actress Encourages Yearly Health Appointments

"I'm sharing my story to encourage others to take their health seriously." - Danielle Fishel

Danielle Fishel, best known for her role as Topanga Lawrence-Matthews on the popular 90s sitcom "Boy Meets World," has revealed that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer.

Fishel, 43, shared her diagnosis on the latest episode of her podcast, "Pod Meets World," which she co-hosts with her former "Boy Meets World" co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle.

In the episode, Fishel said that she was diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a non-invasive form of breast cancer.

  • DCIS is the most common type of breast cancer in the United States.
  • It is typically treated with surgery and radiation therapy.
  • The five-year survival rate for DCIS is 99%.

Fishel said that she is grateful for the early diagnosis and is optimistic about her prognosis.

"I know I'm going to get through this," she said.

Fishel's diagnosis is a reminder of the importance of regular health screenings.

  • The American Cancer Society recommends that women over 40 get a mammogram every year.
  • Women with a family history of breast cancer may need to start getting mammograms earlier.
  • Mammograms can help detect breast cancer early, when it is most treatable.

Fishel said that she hopes her story will inspire others to take their health seriously.

"Don't put off your health appointments," she said.

"Get your mammograms, get your check-ups, and take care of yourself."
