Apple Unveils iPad Air 2024: M2 Chip, Touch ID, and More

iPad Air Gets an Upgrade

New Processor and Features

Apple has officially announced its brand new iPad Air for 2024 at its May 7 "Let Loose" event. The new tablet comes in two configurations, Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + Cellular, and features a slew of upgrades over its predecessor.

The biggest change is the processor. The iPad Air has been upgraded from the obsolete M1 chip to a slightly less obsolete M2 chip. The M1 chip is so 2020, but the M2 chip is a little more modern as a two-year-old processor.

In addition to the processor upgrade, the iPad Air also gets a new design with flatter edges and a Touch ID-enabled power button. This is the same design as the iPad Pro, and it gives the iPad Air a more premium look and feel.

Finally, the iPad Air is available in five gorgeous colors: blue, purple, Starlight, Space Gray, and starlight. Storage starts at 128 GB, but now users also have two new options: 512 GB and 1 TB.

Conclusion

The iPad Air 2024 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor. With its M2 chip, Touch ID, and new design, it's a great choice for anyone looking for a powerful and portable tablet. However, it's worth noting that Apple does not use Face ID on the iPad Air. Instead, the current model has a Touch ID power button, which Apple may maintain in order to keep the premium Face ID feature exclusive to the iPad Pro.
